I love these wings! They come out with sort of a crunchy exterior. And I mean crunchy in the best of ways. Favorites are medium and Thai chili. Very good bleu cheese to go with the veggies (ranch is good too). Their chicken salad is really tasty with a little pineapple in it. I also am a big fan of the Dune Burger.

A Fort Walton Landmark. I just moved back after 14 years and the wings, burgers, beer and service is still outstanding. The best Wings I have had around the world!

huge wings on steroids. hubs always gets tangy mustard wings. I always get fiery thai, dry (which is lightly sauced) chilli cheese fries are a must!

This review is just for the wings. They are served crispy like they should be and they are a decent size - but that is all that is good about them. The sauces have odd tastes to them. Usually one of the top 2 hottest sauces at wing places are decent - but both of them here were not good. What a shame because this seemed like a decent little wing place.

Best Wings Ever! No nonsense, great sauces, good selection of beers, comfy and inviting. My go to place for spicy buffalo wings. Screw BW3's, this place is better... just go.

I have spent countless dinners and lunches at Buffalos Reef even when it was on Okaloosa Island. Back in the Cindy days. I went tonight after a long day as a General Manager in a restaurant in the Destin area. Haven't had anything to eat all day. Most managers can relate. I jokingly asked the waitress to see if it was possible to get all flats because the drummets have a tenden in them that grosses me out. She said she can't ask. Ok I get it. Guess what I recieved, in an order of 25, 19 were drummets. Is it a joke. No sure wasn't when I sent them back and recieved my bill guess what. I was still forced to pay for then19 wings I returned. The manager came out and said I was for warned. No I was told I couldn't ask. Not that there was no way of controlling what I was going to get. Needless to say I went home hungry but the curley fries we great. I will be spending my hard earned money elsewhere.

I write this with a saddened heart. I grew up in Ft.Walton Beach. Buffalo's Reef was my family's favorite go-to restraunt. I moved away and had been back to visit several times, and now have finally moved back home. I was excited to have my favorite wings. Every time I have gone back though.. the quality was poor, the chicken was dry and both the medium and hot sauce held no spice. We had to get a side of sizzling sauce to feel/ taste any kind of heat. It's a bit dingy and outdated as well. The service however was not bad. The staff were quick and polite. With a bit of sprucing up, and tightening the gears this could be a once again great wing spot.

The wings are spectacular! However, do not go in on a busy Saturday and expect good service. We sat for 10minutes before our waitress came to take our order. When I told her we were also ready to order food she told me "I'm too busy right now to take your food order" we immediately got up and left. A server should never tell a customer they cannot take an order! Won't be back anytime soon. Maybe just carry out from now on until they hire better servers.

I came to this place after hearing a lot of people rave about how delicious their wings were. To be perfectly honest, I wasn't blown away and I wasn't really letdown either. Their bone-in wings do have a pleasant crunchy exterior and moist meat inside, so that's a big plus. Their boneless wings..are boneless wings, nothing extraordinary. As for the sauce, I ordered the fiery thai which was described to me as being similar to a sweet thai chili sauce. It kinda was, it was sweet but it had a different twang to it. Not a bad twang, just a different twang that I've had with other similar sauces. For what it's worth, one of the people I was eating there with said they honey bbq was very good. I also got a bowl of chili cheese fries which were good. Chili didn't have much flavor, but the chili and cheese were warm so I can't be too mad. Overall, this place wasn't bad. Service was friendly, no issues there. I would eat there again, but honestly, I'd prefer to eat at Buffalo Wild Wings as they have more sauces and their sauces taste better, in my opinion. It's a divey type place as most people have described and it's a semi decent place to go on gameday as it won't be near as loud or crowded as other places like Buffalo Wild Wings.

This place is great! One of our top 5 favorite locally owned places in the area. They have American red on tap which makes them a 5 in my opinion to begin with! The wings are huge and LOADED with whatever sauce you choose. The veggies are fresh and they aren't stingy with any of their servings. A full order of curly fries can serve 4 or more people for $3.50. The place has plenty of tv's and the AC is always cranked up. Overall this place is amazing and the service is always fantastic!

Stopped in for lunch today, as we were looking for a close burger joint. The inside decor isn't much to look at, and it's not especially clean for a restaurant. A bar maybe, but not a restaurant. We ordered the fried shrimp basket and burger. Each came with fries. I ordered mild buffalo wing sauce to dip my shrimp in. Both dishes were very tasty. Large shrimp, butterflied and fried. Burger cooked perfect, medium. It would have gotten a higher rating, if it weren't for the dingy inside decor and housekeeping. May return.

I would say this place has good hot wings. Nothing out of ordinary, I am from Houston and since I am pluckers fan, their wings were just stomach filling when I was really starving in Fort Walton. Give their hot wings a try. My boyfriend ordered coleslaw as well and he told me they were not good at all. So just stick with wings I guess :)

As always, the BEST WINGS EVER! It's a family tradition to come here and we are never disappointed! Amazing service and the food, can't be beat! Make it a priority on your list!

Stopped in for lunch & got a buffalo chicken salad. Had huge chunks of veggies on it and a lot of chicken. Was a nice large salad, but required a lot of chopping up first. Tiny bag of tiny croutons on the side. Chicken had great flavor (I ordered it hot). I'd love to go back & try the chicken on its own.

We have come here every time we came to Ft. Walton for years! Our favorite place. Best wings and fried pickles on earth! Some things never change! And that's hard to find!

  • Kiana G.

Great crispy wings and huge tasty portions! Buffalo's is definitely a mom and pop (in the late 80's) type place. Our server, Courtney, was extremely pleasant! She was just the type if waitress everyone hopes to have. We were immediately seated on a Saturday during lunch time. The parking lot was very crowded, but we luckily found a spot. As for the food, everything was great! As an appetizer we had the mozzarella sticks. They arrives hot and crunchy on the outside with a steaming gooey counter. The marinara was a little bitter, but that is just a personal preference. As for the entrees and the wings: great! Someone at our table annually visits the bar that created buffalo wings and he said the 'medium' and 'hot' are completely the same. Texture and all! I had the Parrot Chicken Sandwich with sweet potato fries and this place is all about the details. The chicken sandwich came with a wheat bun and condiments on the side automatically. Great thinking! And the sweet potato fries had a brown sugar (and maybe cinnamon) dipping sauce. As for the burgers, they were just as large and just as tasty. These portions were not very cheap but also not for the faint of heart! So it was a fair trade. Buffalo's also has pickles that everyone at the table enjoyed. All in all this place was delicious and of I could give it for and a half stars, I would! My only real caveat would be the very outdated decor but that doesn't compromise the food quality at all; only atmosphere and first impressions. Why not five stars? The food and service were both excellent, however Buffalo's didn't do anything original or innovative with the dishes distinguishing it from a, great, old school and traditional joint.

Have been coming to buffalo reef for years. There wings are the best, always get hot sauce on the wings. Had several other food items on menu there just as good. Never had bad food here.

  • Eileen G.

I can see why some of y'all locals are disappointed in the price of the wings going up and whatnot... Wanting to give this place a crappy review based on crappy service... But these are some of the best wings and sauces I've ever had... And I never considered myself much a wing fan! The combination of the very unique blue cheese dip with the wings in the spicy Thai sauce are sooooo good. My mouth just watered. In San Antonio, TX, I have yet to find a wing place this good. We have crappy chains such as Wing Stop and Buffalo Wild Wings. I wish we had something like Buffalo's Reef with your yummy wings and cute snorkeling buffalo logo/mascot!!! A few places have opened up here recently, but I have yet to find something as delicious as Buffalo's Reef. Quit complaining and consider yourselves lucky!!!

  • Lotte N.

Best wing joint around. One of those places where the wait is worth the wing if it's crowded. Their home-made blue cheese dip is out of this world. With fresh cut celery and carrots you won't feel so bad ordering the jalapeno poppers with Asian chili dipping sauce. Get red with cream cheese...green w/cheddar or mix both. This is one of the FEW places I'll order a burger since they're pretty damned decent and fresh. I've sampled the grilled tuna sandwich and that was delicious as well! Crisp, seasoned curly fries abound so you can definitely share an order of those. If you're looking for rowdy sports bar and a larger selection of beers then go across the street to Wild Wings. If it's taste...it's Buffalo's Reef. You can easily slide in to eat at the bar unless you're with kids. Large and even larger booths are available for groups and families. One of the few places around to offer a "Fluffer-Nutter Sandwich" the only bite...no milk for the wee ones. On the desert note: too bad they no longer serve the locally baked, mini-buttermilk pies. A local classic due to it's legendary and super tasty wings.

4 stars for wings. It is a joint. The wings were very good. Cooked perfectly. Served with celery and carrot sticks. Lots of TV's with sports. We will be back

  • William K.

Agree with the last guy! Great Food! Better then B-Dubs! Wings were good but the whole package made it a great experience, Service, atmosphere etc.

    (5)
  • Kenneth M.

I can only speak for the wings as I've only been once, but hey we're great! Fresh, hot, and spicy. Waitress was nice, friendly, and attentive. Yeah the place is dated, but the food is cooked to order and the wings are MEATY, unlike the chain wing place across the street in the shopping center. If you want atmosphere, go there, if you want good wings, try Buffalo's Reef.

    (4)
  • Jace V.

What a great place. Not all dressed up and fancy. Great wings, in a variety of flavors, crispy and the smell hits you before you ever get them. Homemade ranch and blue cheese dressing that are way beyond anything you can get in a bottle. Generous portions of carrots and celery, not something you have to ask for or pay extra for. Also in great Southern Style, large glasses of sweet tea to wash it down with. Sports bar type decor, but be careful to play ahead on game day or the Superbowl, because everyone in 20 miles has already planned ahead as well.

    (5)
  • Malika L.

Sorry, but not good at all. Run down, dirty atmosphere. Wings were not crispy and sauce was watery. The staff was nice though.

    (1)
  • Brittani V.

This used to be my favorite wing place. My husband and I visited recently and the wings were big and meaty but very undersauced and not quite as crsipy as I had hoped. You won't be disappointed with the wings. But, sadly, they're not the best in my book anymore.

    (3)
  • Natasha L.

Amazing wings and fries!! Every time my husband and I visit my in-laws, this is one restaurant we ALWAYS go. Can't find better wings than Buffalo's Reef!!!

    (5)
  • Jay J.

The Reef has some of the best wings on the Emerald Coast. I hear good things about their burgers, but how can I try a burger when those wiiiiinnnngs are on the menu? "Oh, but what about Buffalo Wild Wings" you say? Sure, go to BWW's for the game, but make sure you fill your lady's purse with Reef wings before going.

    (4)
  • Angi R.

My roomate thinks Buffalo Reef has the best burgers in town so, of course, I had to go. Well, I can't say it was the absolute best burger of my life but it was pretty awesome. We both had the Parrot burger with bacon and different kinds of cheeses and YeuingLing (sp?). They actually cooked them rare for us and since it was a 1/2 pound burger, I didn't have any room left for the fries. The service was pretty slow but I don't know if I'm making a fair generalization here. Our waitress kept getting distracted by the table full of guys behind us.

  • Warren F.

A longtime favorite of locals, the burgers are excellent, beer is cold, and service is terrific. Very friendly and casual, this is my favorite place in Fort Walton Beach for a good burger. The decor has definitely seen better days. It could use a facelift. The wings are OK but not crispy enough for me.

  • Dan A.

We decided to try this place after zaxby's told us they didnt accept credit cards. I can safely say that this was a better choice. Very attentive staff, large glasses for the drinks, lots of quick refills, the wings were awesome, and the burger was juicey and delicious. Be warned , the Hot sauce is more along the lines of a strong medium, so be sure to order xtra hot if you are a spice lover. Also, had every baseball game on tv, as well as the ufc fight. Plenty of entertainment. Home made blue cheese and ranch were great too. I could keep going about this place, but i'll stop here.

  • Kurt N.

I've never been a big fan of buffalo wings until I discovered this place. What makes Buffalo's Reef different is the sauce. It's wet, orange, hot, and smells like vinegar. I don't know if that's that's authentic but I sure as hell like their wings. Not to mention their drummettes and wings are bigger than the "other guys" (BWW) across the street. My only complaint comes from Super Bowl. I ordered 50 wings to pick up before the game. When I got there they were already an hour behind, and to make it worse they couldn't even find my order! I left after about 30 minutes when the people 30 minutes in front of me were starting to get their pick up orders. If it weren't for that they'd have 5 stars, easily.

  • J S.

I'm picky about my wings - I grew up eating them, and then went to college somewhere that had several good take out wing joints around that had great wings with a lot of variety for not a lot of money. My husband and I tried Buffalo Reef, and I think maybe because I've been eating the good stuff my whole life I wasn't impressed. I felt like we paid too much for what we got. The wings themselves were tasty, but to me they weren't phenomenal like everyone else seems to think they are. The decor is very college bar reminiscent and the service was ok. I'd go again if I was with a group or something, but I don't think I'll be back on my own.

What happened to the days of 50 cent wings? If it were up to me, I would never have walked into this restaurant. Alas, sometimes things are not up to me. The wings here are pricey, almost a dollar per piece. Yeah, for a half a piece of a whole fucking wing. Which might be okay if the place was nice. But the place is old and drab and divier than dive. You know, one of those spots where they keep the menu in a plastic holder on the table, and you feel icky just touching the menu? And every other screen displayed for at least an hour, one of those paid for programs on a spandex camisole that will squeeze your fat away. Three easy payments of $19.99 for an $180 value where you can get it in three colors. They did have a daily special of the southern chicken sandwich with fries for $5. That would have been a good deal if the sandwich were good. But it wasn't. And for 50 cents you can get the chicken in a sauce. I got the garlic parmesan and did not taste it at all. So don't bother with that I guess. In the middle of it I dropped the water and it spilled everywhere. Oops my bad. The server told me that she was behind me. I thought she meant to help me clean up as I swept ice and water into the bread basket. But no, she was just passing by and didn't want to be bumped into. No one came to help clean up and I cleaned up the whole table area myself and then sat in a quarter inch of water around my feet for the next 10 minutes. Hey, at least I had thick soles.

I love this place and crave it now that I live back in Texas. They have amazing blue cheese, their wings are HUGE and they also have great fried pickles. We love the original sauce and the bbq. There is always a wait here and the food takes a bit to get to your table but it is always fresh and worth the wait. Think outside of the BWW box! Try the Reef!

    (4)
  • Julia L.

I love hot wings but these are the WORST wings ever! No sauce on my hot wings and they had no flavor. Beware of those who say this place is good. It was NASTY! food gave us diarrhea later that night. I was just visiting the area and looked them up online but it was a waste of money. Cannot recommend them to anyone. YUCK!

  • Mike M.

Being from Buffalo it is really hard to impress me with Chicken Wings. With that being said....SCORE! The are big, juicy, and taste great! The ONLY place to eat for true Buffalo style chicken wings! Only reason not 5 stars is because with all the business they get I think it may be time for some upgrades. It would be really nice to just build a new restaurant but replacing the wall paper would be a good start.

    (4)
  • Scott H.

Man this place has really hit the skids over the past few years..always was kind of a dive but it had great wings at a reasonable price so it had its place...now its just a dive with lousy expensive wings...seriously charging a buck a wing now..and everything is extra(veggies..sauce..dip..etc)...I guess they lost a lot of cash when they opened up the to-go joint and the Destin Store which are now closed and they are trying to make it up on the original store now...I won't be back

  • Andrew S.

I wish there was an ability to give 3.5 stars, because thats where I think my review should lie. I can't quite give it 4 stars, but it is a decent place. I'd heard that the wings were good here. They're ok, not spectacular. Probably the 3rd or 4th best Honey BBQ wings I've ever had, but... they're nowhere near the worst. For the type of restaurant that it is the setting is perfect. Our waitress was incredibly nice, helpful, and made the experience very nice. Also what really impressed me was the level to which they were willing to customize the cooking of their wings. Usually if you order wings on the crispy side the cooks just don't care and give you whatever they're making. Here the wings came out exactly as I'd ordered them. My only complaint is the amount of sauce the put on the wings before serving them, but that can easily be remedied. My advice to anyone is to order wings with light sauce if you don't want a basket of wings drowning in sauce. They also have a decent menu, their salads even are surprisingly good. Not amazing, but good portions and decent toppings. Tiny bit on the pricey side for the food quality, but overall it's a great place to stop in and get lunch. All in all one of the better places in Ft. Walton.

  • Terie M.

Good food and locally owned! Service left something to be desired because they were busy and short staffed. I have had wings and a burger both were good.

    (3)
  • Trey S.

This place is out of this world. The beer is super cold (seriously) and the hot wings are to die for. Don't judge this book by its cover, and make it a point to stop in on your trip to the area.

One of the best traditional wing joints. Great service as well.

  • Lee M.

The last time we were here, while waiting for a to-go order, a waitress walked past us with a tray of food and exclaimed "Oh my god, this smells awful" to another waitress. To which the other waitress replied "Uh, you probably shouldn't say that in front of customers". Uh, no you shouldn't. I think that pretty much sums up Buffalo's Reef... I've been here several times, my family usually gets wings from here to-go to eat back at our place. The wings themselves are good, big and well cooked, but everything else, meh. The buffalo sauce is strange, it has little buffalo flavor, it seems to just be butter flavored oil and hot sauce. It's very thin and doesn't coat the wings very well. It's also not very well mixed together so it separates, half the container is hot sauce and the other half is grease. The wings seem to soak up the grease and just taste like margarine. I find myself scooping up the hot sauce part with celery just for some "buffalo" flavor. The other sauce flavors are better, the teriyaki and honey mustard are particularly good. The bbq is pretty standard tasting, like KC Masterpiece from a bottle. They are very stingy with the ranch and bleu cheese dressing, we got one 1.5 ounce serving cup of ranch with 20 wings, not really covering it. Make sure you order extra, but it'll cost you. The curly fries have always been soggy, but that may be due to us bringing them home in the styrofoam clamshell. We did get chili cheese fries one time while dining in and they were quite good, but seriously they're chili cheese fries, how bad could they be? Other sides (potato salad, macaroni salad, coleslaw) are inoffensive but nothing special. Chicken fingers seemed to be pre-made frozen tenders, not freshly breaded, not very good. Service is definitely a negative, has always been slow when dining in and there's not always someone at the to go counter. We have waited a long time to pick up called in to go orders that we could see sitting on the counter because no one came to help us. Also, see the first paragraph. Decor is godawful, to call it divey would be an insult to my favorite dives. Dirty and old is probably a better description. But, I'm sure I'll come back, because it's sort of a family tradition now, that's what gets them the second star. But the Zaxby's next door is looking better and better every time I go.

First yelp review for my favorite wing joint. First of all the wings are some of the best I have ever had, the burgers are good, the sweet tea is perfectly sweet, even the veggies are fresh and delicious.. The restaurant it's self is a little old, actually their is nothing fancy about this place at all... But if you want the best wings in town with a friendly service give it a try!

    (4)
  • Jamie N.

This place is not for me. The sauce is butter based and really greasy. I got the garlic parmesan boneless and they were so salty and greasy. My husband got the mustard and bbq traditional and the sauce was not good either. Some people may like butter based sauces but it was not for us. Had I known I wouldn't have come. They are super nice though.

These wings are D-Lish!!! Large and crisp and drenched in the sauce of your choice with a generous amount of carrots, celery, and blue cheese on the side. The standard varieties include: Mild, Medium, Hot, Super Hot (don't do it if you value your intestines), Fiery Thai, Honey BBQ, Teriyaki, Honey Mustard, Hot N' Spicy BBQ, Garlic Parmesan. When I lived in the area I used to order a special sauce combo which is a Hot Honey BBQ (no longer on menu but most of the staff will make it for you on request.) The original (mild-medium-hot) sauces are very authentic to the wings I've had in upstate NY. The place is always packed (especially during game times) so it's better to place an order to go and pick it up at the drive through window. Also note that they are usually closed on Mondays (except during football season.) If you're vacationing in the Ft. Walton/Destin area you've got to go at least once. I miss it and can't wait to visit on my next trip to the area.

  • D Y.

Ordered a sampler basket: 6 wings of your flavor choice, 2 fried chicken strips & 6 shrimp (frozen kind) with curly fries & either slaw, mac or tater salad side & 2 sauces--one for wings & one for chicken strips. A great deal for $10.95. Iced tea is the jumbo sized. Decor is a reminder of a college beer joint that's in need of a major facelift! The place is busy, so it's time y'all--bring in some new decor, redo floors, walls & ceiling tiles. Repave your parking lot & repaint outside! Get a brand new digital sign while you're at it! You will be just as busy or even more so and the clients will appreciate it! Wing Ding nite -- don't expect to share -- its not allowed.

Being from Buffalo, NY I'm very picky about my wings but I gave Buffalo's Reef a shot and I'm glad we did. Wings tasted great and we will defiantly be a repeat customer.

Wings are good but the place is sooo filthy. I found the restaurant disgusting and the servers to be ok, just ok. I was not impressed. I use to live here SOO I've been here many times - this will be my last visit.... Nasty gross.

  • A. J.

Nothing special with the wings. I had an order of 10 for approx $10.00 including tax. They were take out so a little soft and slimy when I ate them. I chose the honey BBQ sauce, again nothing special tasted like McDonalds McRib sauce...Cookies, KCMasterpiece maybe? The real issue with this place was the order mess up. All told as a group we had 8 orders, one order missing 5 wings and another missing 10. Even though we were charged, the store's response was "nothing we can do, should've checked before you left". That dropped them down a star from marginal. I don't see myself going back.

  • Athan D.

The new Parmesan garlic is rather good, but I have to agree with another reviewer that the hot wings r not hot and very little sauce. They're rather dry

  • Tim H.

Worst service I have ever received. It took over 30 minutes to get our food after ordering. The food was good when it finally came. We were there for over an hour and the waitress checked on us once and then never came back with our refill. She only came back after my wife got fed up and went to the car. Good food, terrible service.

Great wings! Make sure to get them hot and wet. They come with carrots and celery. The place is a bit of a dive though and prices have recently increased.

This place is pretty good. Kind of a dive, but they have beer and wings. What more could a girl ask for? Reasonably priced, but I like BWW better. The service here was pretty good.

  • Max A.

Really great wings. Great enough for my frugal self to take out a loan in order to have some.j/k. Somewhat expensive to where you're paying about a dollar per wing. Bigger wings than most, cooked to perfection, and flavored to perfection. We usually order Honey BBQ, Hot Wings and Garlic Parmesian. I would like for them to have a sample order to where you can get a few of each of the 10 flavors. (I may have to ask, the next time we order). I mistakenly ordered the super hot because I had the medium the last time. I did not know they had four levels of hot, thus i surpassed the hot and got the highest heat level. After the first bite, I thought I could take it and stupidly took another bite. After about 5 seconds the heat set in and I knew I was in trouble. My eyes didn't water but I was hoping for surgical removal of my tongue and gums (HOT!!!) I compare eating the super hot to realizing you've just ingested poison with no return. About 10 minutes later the heat had dissipated enough to continue on and beg for BBQ wings from my kid.lol. I plan to take the super hot to work tomorrow and see if the spicy food addict at work can handle these things. These would be great at a football party for your rivals.haha.

I was born and raise in Buffalo, NY. This place came out of nowhere with authentic buffalo receipe wings. They taste like your in Western New York! Get them hot and get them "very wet"!
